Gospel Outreach at Charles Thompson’s Mission....
By Rob Jeffs Superintendent

The day to day work of CTM continues at a pace, with a great number of people calling in the Mission for a free meal, clothing, household items and much more.  Yet among all this practical work done in the Lord’s name it has always been accompanied by the gospel message that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.  For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans Ch. 3:23 NIV).
Along with our gospel meeting each Sunday at 3pm we also have a meeting on a Wednesday at 11.45am which includes a soup lunch.  Numbers vary but God has done a work of salvation among some of those who attend.
Some years ago a lady called Brenda trusted Jesus as her Saviour as a result of this meeting.  It was just as well because a few years after this she was taken ill one Sunday in CTM and later that night she had been called into God’s presence.
We use the Sankey hymn book at the Wednesday meeting and earlier this year a “Moody and Sankey evening” was held at Holy Trinity Church in Spital.  It was a wonderful evening and a lot of love and support was given to CTM that evening.  One of the songs we sang that evening is one we sing a lot at our Wednesday meeting: “When the roll is called up yonder I’ll be there”.  Will you be there?  Have you trusted and received Jesus as your Saviour?  Another Sankey hymn we sing is “Have you any room for Jesus, He who bore your load of sin, sinner will you let Him in?”
Visits to Charles Thompson’s Mission
Last September we had a real surprise visit to the mission.  It was the great granddaughter of the founder of CTM, Charles Thompson. Dawn and her husband had come over from California USA to visit relatives in Llangollen . It was great to meet them all and a great thrill for them to visit CTM and see how her great grandfather’s work is still going on today and within this work of pointing people to the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation.
Her visit coincided with the adults outing to Llangollen, so they were able to join us for tea at Glanarfon Evangelical Church. They said it was just like the teas that had been provided over the year at CTM .
Another visit to CTM early one autumn morning was that of roving reporter Ian Kenyon from Radio Merseyside to interview Pastor Jeffs for the “ Snelly’s morning show “. The subject was child poverty and Rob was freely able to give the view that he felt a lot of the problem of family breakdown and the results of it were of a spiritual nature . The way people live today with  no thought for God, His word or his standards have caused great problems in our nation . The Bible says “ righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people “. Proverbs 14 v 34 (NKJV)
Pastor Jeffs and others on the  staff have been on Radio Merseyside several times, especially Wayne Clark’s Sunday mornings religious programme “Daybreak” 7am to 8.30am, followed by  “Voices Raised in Praise” until 9am.
We do thank the radio station for all their professionalism and friendliness whenever they call on us.
