Not long later the ABA Committee again selected Frank to box for England against Germany which he won. He was then selected for the 1955 European Games in which he lost to a Russian who went on to lose to Cassius Clay in the semi-finals in the 1960 Rome Olympics. It was around this time that Frank met his beloved Joan and they married in 1957. God has since given them five children and three grandchildren.
In 1984 Frank Hope fought a title fight of gigantic proportions at none other than Anfield Stadium - and threw in the towel in the first round! What? With the encouragement of some of their children and Joan’s curiosity to see the famous Anfield ground they attended a night of the week long evangelistic meetings held by an American evangelist Billy Graham. Though Frank had no earlier interest in religion he had attended as a boy the Ebeneezer Chapel, Walton. “The seeds of the Gospel of Jesus Christ were most likely sown into my heart there,” says Frank today.
At Anfield in a fight for the title of his life, Frank Hope bowed and “threw in the towel” and placed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He suddenly understood that the fight with his sinfulness before God was a losing one and that heaven and hell were on the line. The only way was to surrender to the love and grace of God in His Son Jesus Christ. Frank says, “He gave me a peace, changed me and I’ve never looked back!”
Today Frank and Joan tell everyone they know of the Lord Jesus Christ. Frank can be found weekly in the streets of Liverpool with other Christians giving Gospel tracts and speaking to people about Christ. When asked “why?” he simply says, “ ’cause I want to give them what I’ve got.”
Reader, if you sense the Lord drawing you toward Himself by this testimony phone the LCM office and someone will be happy to speak with you concerning the Lord Jesus Christ.
