Matheson Church, Bromborough.   Pastor Mark Foster writes…..

Like many other Churches we realise at Matheson that we must be involved with reaching out to others with the good news of Jesus Christ and his death on our behalf. Throughout the book of Acts you just can’t get away from the fact that all Christians are called to be witnesses of Jesus Christ and so if we are to take this teaching seriously this must affect what happens in our own personal lives and the life of the church. With this in mind, in this snapshot from Matheson, I would like to mention a couple of things that we have done, or are looking to do in the Church.

In order to be those witnesses we have planned specific evangelistic events throughout the year and we have looked at how we can help our own people become more involved in this great task. So, some months back in our home groups we ran a simple course called ‘6 Steps To Talking About Jesus’. As the name suggests, the purpose of this was to help and equip us all to speak of Jesus Christ when God gives us the opportunities with our friends, neighbours, relatives and work colleagues. We found that this was a very helpful course as we had the chance to think through some of the issues and challenges that we all face in this area. On top of this we have had special events over and above the normal weekly opportunities in the life of the Church. So for example, recently we had an evening with Gus Eyre, a musician and evangelist. At the time of going to press we are having a series of meetings entitled ‘If you could ask God one question what would it be?’ Under this heading we’re looking at such questions as ‘What is the true purpose to life?’ ‘If God is so good, how come the world is so bad?’ and ‘Is there life after death or is this all I’ve got’? During the May half term we held our Holiday Bible Club under the title of “Champions Challenge” where we used Sport and the Olympics as the theme of the club.  A report on this will appear in the near future.

As we think about what we’re doing and what’s ahead, above all else we covet your prayers. We can come up with our plans but nothing of significance can happen without God blessing it. So please pray for us. Please pray that God would bless these efforts and please pray that God would use us to tell others the good news of Jesus Christ.
