WHY JUBILEE CHAPEL CENTRE ……….From John Evans
In Psalm 9 verse 18 we have a special promise to those in need “For the needy shall not always be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish for ever”
Although this verse is speaking of God’s special care for His own people, on a different level it could be applied to the work of those faithful volunteers at our centre in Kensington as so many folk with a variety of needs come week by week for help.
Although their needs vary as much as their faces, one thing is common to all, including ourselves, we all need to know that we have not been forgotten by God. Paul the apostle, when preaching on Mars Hill in Acts 17 verses 27-28a said these words “…That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: For in him we live and move and have our being.” To feel as though no one cares, can be, for most people, a devastating experience. So at our centre a faithful band of helpers seek to make all welcome, at the same time reminding them that they are not without the Word of God, which is food for their precious souls.
With the help of the many people who have contributed tinned and fresh items of food, we are able to give meals in the form of breakfasts and two course lunches free of charge.
Just before lunch is served a speaker will present a short message from God’s word. To have 40-60 listening about the Saviour is a wonderful blessing to us all, and reminds us that our Lord Jesus Christ spoke often His word yet at the same time not ignoring the physical needs of His hearers.
Today The Lord is still “Seeking His sheep” and is still able to save to the uttermost those who come to God by Him. We are reminded in Hebrews 13 verse 8 “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever“ and in Luke 15 verse 2 “"This man receiveth sinners.”
Currently we are open on Monday and Tuesday for breakfast and lunches and on Wednesday for just for lunches. On Tuesday’s we distribute tinned food and clothing. We are so grateful to all who donate their harvest during September and October each year, as this enables us to do so much more. We also, as ever, acknowledge gratefully the help of all our volunteers and donors, and trust the Lord alone for all our future supplies. So, if I ask “Why Jubilee Chapel Centre?” we would answer by God’s Word in Psalm 9 verse 18.
