desperate needs and face unbelievable problems. LCM workers are still on the front line as they have always been – meeting physical needs as best they can through the generosity of those who support the work. However, there are countless thousands more who have an even greater need than food, clothing or a bed for the night. Many of these people are wealthy in this world’s eyes but are poverty stricken before God. LCM started with the aim of “Promoting the Religious Instruction of the Poor of Liverpool…” and 179 years later nothing has changed. Man’s greatest need is and always has been to know freedom from the penalty and power of Sin. The work of LCM is still the same – as the prophet Isaiah says “…to preach good news to the poor… to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favour and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,” (Isa 61:1-3 NIV)
