FROM THE PULPIT From Pastor Rob Jeffs of Charles Thompson’s Mission.
“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in Christ Jesus” Philippians Ch 4 v 19
This verse was quoted on the back page of the last issue of this magazine and I thought we might open it out a bit more and see the wonderful blessings in this promise of God.
MY GOD
What a joy and privilege to know God in a personal way. Oh what grace He has poured out upon us. To many, following God is about religion or rule-keeping. To those of us He has graciously saved from our sin, it is a personal relationship. He is my God, not a distant deity I have to placate and please but my heavenly Father who loves me and accepts me in Christ.
MY SURETY
Yes the scripture says that He “shall” - not might, or possibly but SHALL! God always keeps His promises, always keeps His Word. We can be sure of that.
MY PROVIDER
The hymn writer says of the faithfulness of God, “all I have needed thy hand hath provided.” His grace is sufficient for me. What does God provide for His children, all that we want? No, all of our needs.
MY SUSTAINER
What are our needs? Well there are so many. My God says in Hebrews Ch 4 v 16, “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” What is our greatest need? Surely it is to be forgiven and cleansed from all our sins & be saved from the wrath to come. Some say “I can’t become a Christian, I couldn’t keep it up.” But God alone is the Saviour of the world in and through His Son the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the great Saviour & sustainer. Proverbs Ch 3 v 5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart…”
MY SUPPLY
God pours out His blessing on us “according to His riches.” Psalm 24 v 1 says “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.” (NIV). All the resources in the universe are His and are at His disposal. All our practical needs He is willing to provide. Again the Psalmist says in Psalm 70 v 5 “But I am poor and needy; make haste to me O God! You are my help and deliverer, O Lord do not delay.” Also, our God supplies all our need to be saved from sin. John Ch 1 v 7 says “The blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us from all sin.” Praise God His blood avails for me!
MY SAVIOUR
In John Ch 1 v 1 the Bible tells us that Jesus Christ, The Word, is God. So here in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, we are promised that all our needs will be met. All the riches that are found in Christ are ours. All our practical and spiritual needs, all the needs of the Liverpool City Mission, the Mission churches and us as individuals, can be found and met in Christ and Christ alone. So may we through prayer and faith turn to our God in time of need and find our needs fully supplied in and through God our Saviour.
