On 7th January 2008 Paul Holloway began work as Evangelism Chaplain at the Jubilee Chapel Centre in Kensington. His brief is to take responsibility for both the practical work in the day to day running of the centre, complimenting the work already being done by Catering Manager John Evans, and to expand the Gospel work at the homeless meals and to reach out to the local community.

As yet it is early days, but Paul has already seen God’s blessing - especially in the door to door work in the local streets surrounding the centre. “Each month 200 copies of the “Good News” paper are being delivered to local residents,” says Paul. “We have had some good conversations as a result with many people fondly remembering the “old days” when David Jebson was located at Jubilee, and have expressed a hope that it may re-open its doors to them in the future.”

We started our “Over 50’s” Luncheon Club (With a Gospel Flavour!) in June and re-started on 4th September 08 after the summer holidays break. David Jebson came along at the end of July and spoke about the history of Jubilee Chapel going back to the 1950’s.  We have a regular small group of up to a dozen at the moment and pray that this will grow.

The ongoing work at Jubilee is still going well with John Evans and his team of loyal volunteers who serve a cooked lunch each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (along with breakfast on Monday and Tuesday). “There are about 40 people per day,” says Paul. “During the morning on these days there are often a dozen or so people who drop in for tea and biscuits and a game of Dominoes or Snakes and Ladders!”  “We’ve also started a simple daily Bible quiz each morning which has been well received by our customers, so much so that if it doesn’t start on time they are letting us know about it!”  “This is yet another simple opportunity to share the Gospel in the framing of the questions.”

Another “change” has been seen outside as the old Gospel Text Boards which have been blank for such a long time have been re-sited and Bible verses are now on display on the building’s exterior. Please pray that the silent witness of God’s word may challenge the hearts of the locals. Indeed, please surround all of the work at the Jubilee Centre with your prayers.
